A while ago I began the investigation into 2008 presidential candidates. It's so hard to figure out everyone's voting record, who's a flip-flopper, who's telling the truth, and so on. So let me ask you...how are you deciding who to vote for? Are you sticking with your party? The party your parents vote for? Where are you getting info on the candidates? Fox News? CNN? Family? Friends? Know a great website? Now, I'm not asking you to share your pick, but by all means feel free to if you want.

Hey Dena! Good topic.
I have typically voted republican. My main issue has been the pro-life cause b/c 45 million is a lot of innocent lives lost. I was pretty passionate about republican politics a few years ago.
But now, it seems, i've lost my confidence in political parties in general. I no longer vote party-line, but try my best to figure out individuals to vote for.
I hardly ever watch TV-news. I think the best place to learn about a candidate is there own website. I also take some of those quizzes online that show your agreement levels with each candidate.
Another thing I take into consideration is the opinion of people I respect. For instance, I went to a Derek Webb concert and he pretty much endorsed Ron Paul. I hadn't even really looked into Ron Paul as a candidate. From what I had heard, he was pretty much a crazy extremist. But I looked into him and became more interested. A few weeks later I was listening to my favorite radio show and the Christian host was asked about Ron Paul and said he liked him a lot. So I did some more research.
At this point, I'd have to say I favor Ron Paul. I don't think he has a chance to win the republican nomination b/c he was anti-Iraq war. But maybe he'll run as an independent or something. If not, I suppose I'll vote for Fred Thompson in the NY primary since he's endorsed by 'Right-to-Life'
If neither Thompson or Paul is on the presidential ticket, I really don't know who I'd vote for.
For the first time ever I'm looking just as seriously at democratic canidates as the republican ones. Part of me feels like the republican party needs a bit of a time out, but that's just me.
Like Matthew I never ever watch TV news, I end up throwing things at the screen. I've been reading up on the canidates through reading Time, Newsweek, The Atlantic Monthly, and newspapers. Everything except The Atlantic is free to read online. If you really want to read The Atlantic I'll give you my sign in and password. I think it's the best researched articles, and they are complete, they are often 20 pages long or so. They are un-apologically liberal though, so you won't find anything good about a republican in it. I've also been talking a lot to my capitol hill friends who have a lot of inside knowledge and a better understanding of how politics that it astounds me.
Even with all of this I'm struggling. I have at least one serious reservation about every major canidate, and I've dismissed Gulianni, Romney, and Edwards completly. It's tough.
I'm voting for Barack Obama because I'm black and so is he.
