Calling All Bloggers

Okay, we need help! We have had a girl's name picked out since before we were even married. We have always refered to our first daughter by this name. Now we are not so sure if we want to sick with it. We are covered in the boy's name department, but we need your help with a girl's name. We like uncommon, but not weird names, something with great meaning. Something a little trendy would be okay, but not commonly trendy like Madison. Something old-fashioned would be fine, but not something 80's like Brandy or Tiffany. Something Biblical would be nice, but not something too plain like Rebecca or Elizabeth, and not something awful like Dorcus or Jezebel.

Any and all suggestions are welcome as long as they are sincere.
Thanks for your help.

I've ALWAYS loved Abigail. If Elijah would have been a girl he *might* have been Abigail, had my husband not been so adamant to name her Brooke. She prolly would have been that. But...since we didn't use them and if you like...you may take :) I guess they're not really exotic and trendy. But Abigail is a Bible name! I will keep thinking....I know there are more I was liking. I will keep you posted as they come in :)

Wow, thanks for the list, Matt. Actually we have considered a couple of those names. And believe it or not, I have known three girls named Tirzah Joy. Funny, huh?

I like Mia, we thought about Nora (it is my grandmother's name) and I really like Kyla, but it does not sound good with Micaiah, too bad.

ohhh. I like Nora!! I also like Macy (macey) and Ava. (friends recently used both and I love 'em) Olivia, or Livy...Talia (Natalia for long version) Those are just off the top of my head.....

I have a name that I think fits all of your criteria, but I'm not going to say it it because like Matthew, I don't want you to use it, because we're thinking of using it if we have a girl, whenever we have kids. So I'm sorry for this very un-helpful answer. But I hope someone else can be of assistance.

my current favorite girl name is Libby, I also like Leah, Lilly, Anna, Kayla and Dierdre (deer-dra...i don't think i spelled it right...).

Tho, if you had a name already picked out, why the sudden questioning? I had Hana's name picked before I was even pregnant and almost changed it too, but am SO glad I stuck with it.

I too agree that maybe you should stick to the name that you previously had, or you might regret it???
I wanted to name my little girl Hailey for years, and a couple weeks before Danielle was born, we changed the name. I'm glad we did...I love her name. But my next little girl (if I'm blessed with another) will be Hailey.
On the other hand, I too am a fan of Nora or Mia. I liked Mia, but Morgan didn't.
You think Elizabeth is plain? I think it's a gorgeous name!

Dena said...

Yes, I do think Elizabeth is pretty, but what I meant by "plain" is that's it's too common for my taste right now.

Abigail is my favorite- actually it's one of two names that Luke and I have agreed upon when we have kids.

I think Hannah and Michaiah sound really good together, and for some reason I think Natalie sounds good to for some reason.

Let us know when you pick.

I like Ellie and Ella, Ava, Millie, Clara, Sophie, Anna...I know I'll think of more, but this is a start. (I'm also partial to Grace and Elizabeth... my little girl's name is Grace Elizabeth Anne).

Elliott, you've known THREE Tirzah-Joy's? That's crazy. I knew there were some out there, but not that many.

Here is a short list of girls names that seem very popular at the moment. In Micah's classes, there have been three or four of these: Abby, Abigail, Grace, Ava, Eva, Olivia, Reagan, and Hannah, and Emma (thanks to Friends) They are all beautiful names, but if you want something uncommon, they might not be it. I like Mary, however in South America "Maria" is probably more common than any of those names above.

Kelly said...

Also- Madison and Madeline. Forgot those. :)

Dena said...

Yeah, Maria has been the most common Latin American name for over 50 years now, so that's out for me. And actually, Matt, that was me on the Tirzah-Joy comment, I didn't realize I was logged in as Elliott. I knew a girl from Trinity Univ. in Illinois with that name. I also knew a local (Illinois) musician who wrote a song about his daughter Tirzah-Joy, who is probably 12-ish now. The other girl is about 2 now...so they are spread across age groups.

Well I was going to recommend Dorcus, but there goes that idea. Just kidding!
We are going with Ella if we have a girl, which I love. You could always go with the same and she would be named after Elliot. But that might be too much alike. The other names we thought about for a girl were:
-Ava Grace (this was our other favorite)
-Hope (which will be our Ella's middle name, if we have a girl)

I also love Abigail/ Abby, Mia/Mya, Kira (pronounced Keera. And I like Ceri (pronounced Suri, like Tom Cruise's baby... I had never heard the name before, but I like it. Not sure what it means though.)

And what about the name you have always had picked out??? Do you think you will share it with us or keep it a secret?

Kelly said...

I'm pretty sure Suri means "rose." I could be wrong, though.

Angela said...

Oh yes! I LOVE the name Hope...I would definitely name my child Hope, but the husband isn't a fan. I think it's sooo pretty. I also love Ella. Isabelle and Hannah are also favorites.
I too am curious what the previous chosen name is!

Jo said...

I'm only sharing these with you because I think it is highly unlikely that I will ever have the opportunity to have my own child. So, you get to reap the benefits.

1. Sadie Rose
2. Adalynn Meredith
3. Ada
4. Leta
5. Adelaide (Adel/Addie/Dee)
6. Hannah
7. Hadassah (Haddie)
8. Claire

p.s. there are already too many "J" names in the world, if you could avoid them, I'd be most greatful. :)
